Membership in a professional association like NTPA not only enriches our leadership skills but also strengthens our collective resilience. By actively engaging with our association, we can address the challenges we face in education more effectively. As leaders, it is essential to identify personal stressors and make use of the support services available through our association.
Research from the ACU Institute for Positive Psychology and Education (2024) offers key recommendations for enhancing our professional journey:
- School principals should actively engage with their association to provide feedback and advice.
- Professional associations should capitalise on advocacy and advisory opportunities for policy changes, drawing on the insights from their members.
- School leaders should identify personal stressors and tap into existing support services from professional associations, employers, and healthcare providers.
Further recommendations from the Silent Cost, Impact and Management of Secondary Trauma in Educators (2025) highlights the importance of creating opportunities for peer support and establishing strong professional networks, which can significantly enhance our collective wellbeing.
Collective Strength: Navigating Educational Challenges Together

By working together, we can support each other, share knowledge and best practices to improve our professional experiences. This collaboration fosters an environment that promotes individual wellbeing while contributing to a strong educational community.
I encourage you to join upcoming events, share your insights and help us shape the future of education in the Northern Territory.
You all deserve a well-earned break. Please make the most of the next few weeks.
Thank you for all you do!Carolyn

Other Professional Learning and Resources
The Harvard Club of Australia (HCA) is offering over 35 scholarships to The Principals' Centre in Australia, a joint initiative between the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) and HCA. Now entering its fifth year, this five-day leadership program will be hosted in Sydney from 12 to 16 January 2026.
The program brings together school leaders and Harvard faculty to explore leadership strategies and tools to accelerate learning for all students. Participants come from nearly every schooling jurisdiction across Australia and New Zealand, forming long-lasting professional support networks. To our knowledge, this remains Australia’s largest scholarship initiative specifically designed for school principals.
Applications are now open, and the first round of scholarship applications will close on 30 June. Further details about the program, along with the application link, can be found here.
Eligible applicants include school leaders from Australian public schools with an ICSEA score below 1000 or those located in regional and rural areas. Each HCA Scholarship covers 80% of the program tuition, hotel accommodation with breakfast, and includes a travel stipend.
NTPA encourages members to apply for this wonderful opportunity to build your capacity through Australia’s largest scholarship initiative.
